Pictures from our Lobby day
on February 13th. David
Pauli from The Humane Society of the United States came to Utah to give us the
national perspective on animal cruelty and Utah’s need for tougher laws. We had about 50 attendees who all made
contact with their legislators. Many
sent in notes of support to Representative Sheryl Allen’s for her Sponsorship
of HB 470. .

Pictures from February 7, 2008 news conference, where Gene
Baierschmidt, of the Humane Society of Utah, Anne Davis, of Animal Advocacy
Alliance of Utah, Cheryl Smith, or Utah Animal Adoption Center and Kathy King
of Summit County Friends of Animals all spoke.
Lauren Schmid, a 13-year old volunteer at the Utah Animal Adoption Center also spoke. She did a project for school on animal cruelty and brought with her a poster she made delineating the states that have not enacted a felony provision for intentional animal cruelty or torture. She spoke very well before the cameras on behalf or SB 102.

Sadie, the dog allegedly stabbed in the face by a neighbor, attended a February 8, 2008 Senate Judiciary, Law Enforcement and C criminal Justice Committee hearing. Dave Reynolds, Sadie’s owner, spoke to the Committee about how the attack on his dog affected his family. He also expressed his desire for stronger animal cruelty laws.
Unfortunately, SB 102 though scheduled, was never
heard. SB 117 was passed out of
Committee. We are working to defeat SB
117. Watch our Updates link for more
information.
