Last year, we raised nearly 10,000 pounds of pet food which started off with a pallet of food donated by Associated Foods. The economy has caused such an increase in animals being taken, or even dropped off in the middle of the night, at shelters.

Sept. 29, 2009 (Q Salt Lake) - Of all those hit by the recent economic crisis, one could argue that pets have suffered the most. With home foreclosures up and human homelessness at highs unseen since the Great Depression, many people have been forced to give their beloved pets up to shelters and rescues at an alarming rate. Worse, some have simply abandoned their animals to fend for themselves — an act that puts them in danger of starvation, sickness and death.
